Installation & use
01. Does the sound of my KessTech system change with increasing mileage?
This depends on your riding profile and the use of your bike. Just as the behaviour of the engine can change, so can the behaviour of our system. Deviations can occur in nuances depending on the riding profile.
02. Is the sound of complete systems different from that of slipons?
There is no difference in the noise level between slipons and complete systems. However, you may perceive the sound of a complete system a little harder than that of the slipons.
03. Can the sound of my system differ depending on the end cap?
End caps with a larger diameter of the opening usually sound a little stronger, end caps with a smaller diameter of the opening usually sound a little more dampened. Here too, however, this is all a matter of personal perception.
04. I have installed a KessTech exhaust. Do I need a mapping now?
Our systems are always type-approved for the vehicles in their original condition. Therefore no subsequent mapping is required.
05. I already have a KessTech system and would like to replace the end cap. Can you do that?
End caps can be changed at our company. To find out more about costs and procedure, please contact us by phone (+49 9521/95420-0) or email (contact@kesstech.de).
06. Can I install my exhaust system by myself or do I have to go to a dealer?
The installation of our products is always done only through our dealers. The reason for this is that our dealers are trained by us and only in this way can we guarantee professional installation. This is a prerequisite to be able to guarantee a warranty claim.
07. I have ordered my system through my dealer. When will it arrive?
Our delivery times are about 1-2 weeks, depending on country and article. In addition, the delivery time can vary under unforeseeable external circumstances. Your dealer can provide more information here.
08. Can I mount a Euro4 exhaust system on a Euro3 motorcycle and vice versa?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. A EURO4 exhaust system is always only type-approved for a EURO4 motorcycle, a EURO3 exhaust system for a EURO3 motorcycle and so on.
09. I already have a KessTech slipon system. Can I change it over to a complete system at a later date?
Unfortunately, this is not possible because some components, such as brackets, are different on our slipon systems than on complete systems.
10. I could buy a used system (e.g. via Ebay). Can you tell me if it fits my motorcycle?
Please send us some information about the system (serial number - you can find it on the front side of the EC type-approval card - when and where you bought it, slipons or complete system) and your bike (model and year of construction) as well as your name, then we will be happy to help you. The best way is by email to contact@kesstech.de.
The sound system
12. How does the KessTech system work with the ESM2 system?
In our ESM2 system there are two modes: OFF mode and ON mode. By pressing the handlebar switch you can switch between the two modes. After switching on the engine, the system is always in OFF mode first: the light of the handlebar switch does not light up. In this mode the valves are closed. At higher speeds the valves are automatically opened slightly to allow heat to escape. ON mode: The light of the handlebar switch is now lighted and the valves are opened. The system now automatically regulates (=closes and opens the valves) to comply with the legal requirements. With the system ESM2 you are, as with our other systems, always legally on the road!
13. How does the KessTech system work with the ESM3 system?
Our system ESM3 has two modes, like ESM2: OFF mode and ON mode. The system now regulates (=closes and opens the valves) automatically. ESM3 regulates similar to ESM2, but the system is much more detailed and finer. With the system ESM3 you are, as with our other systems, always legally on the road!
14. How does the KessTech system work since Euro4 (with ESE)?
Our system ESE (for models from EURO4) has three modes: OFF Mode, ON Mode and MEDIUM Mode. By pressing the handlebar switch you can switch between these modes (order: ON Mode, MEDIUM Mode, OFF Mode). After switching on the engine, the system is always in OFF mode first: the light of the handlebar switch does not light up. In this mode the valves are closed. ON Mode: The light of the handlebar switch is now blue and the valves are fully open. The system now regulates (=closes and opens the valves) automatically. MEDIUM Mode: The light of the handlebar switch is now green and the valves go into an intermediate position. The system regulates (=closes and opens the valves) automatically in this mode, as in ON mode. Below 15 km/h the MEDIUM mode is deactivated, in this case the system goes into the ON mode. With ESE, the valves are also regulated automatically in each mode to optimize sound and performance while maintaining legality and giving you the ultimate in driving pleasure. When the automatic valve control takes effect differs from model to model. With ESE you are, like with our other systems, always legally on the road!
15. What additional functions does the ESE system have and how do they work?
- Power-Feature: In OFF and MEDIUM mode an additional power boost is available. ESE automatically detects when you need more power spontaneously (e.g. during an overtaking manoeuvre or in a dangerous situation) and immediately applies it without having to change the mode.
- Active Engine Protection (AEP): If you are in OFF mode and ESE detects that the vehicle engine is getting too hot (for example at a red light), the valves open automatically to reduce exhaust back pressure and let heat escape. If the driving profile changes to a thermally less critical one, the system automatically switches back to OFF mode.
- Free software upgrades: We always think of new features, so all ESE systems will always receive future software upgrades free of charge! The electronics simply have to be sent to KessTech and we will bring them up to date.
16. What are the benefits of an ESE software upgrade?
With our ESE software upgrade, your electronics are always up to date and state-of-the-art. So you always benefit from our latest ideas and improvements, just like with the software upgrade on your smartphone.
17. Is there also a new upgrade for ESM 2/3 systems?
No, software upgrades are only possible for our ESE systems. This is because we use new and completely different upgradeable electronics for ESE than in the days of the ESM generation.
18. How does the construction of your exhaust system differ from the construction of other manufacturers?
Roughly summarized, we differ from other manufacturers in four points:
- Our valves are located at the end of the exhaust. This allows us to use the whole exhaust as a sounding board: the more sounding board, the more we get the typical deep sound.
- With our ESE electronics we are pioneers in the market: we have the most advanced and fastest electronics ( valves close and open in 0.4 sec.) and can therefore offer functions like Power-Feature and Active Engine Potection. Furthermore, our electronics are upgradeable. With the free software upgrade you are always up to date with the latest technology!
- In all three modes of our ESE system you have the same peak performance. In general our systems have the best performance. This has also been confirmed by independent tests in the technical literature!
- Our valves are running via cardan shafts. These are hexagonal cardan shafts made of stainless steel, which are particularly stable and robust.

20. Can I order a spare part directly from you?
Please contact our sales department directly by email (contact@kesstech.de) or phone (+49 9521/95420-0) with some information about the required part and your motorcycle.
21. I have a problem with my remote, can you help me?
Please contact your dealer for this. We do not sell these parts and can therefore not help you with any questions.
22. I live near your headquarter. Can I come by and you guys check my exhaust system?
Unfortunately our workshop is not designed for direct customer visits. Please contact your dealer if you have questions or problems. Your dealer can certainly help you or contact us.
23. How many years warranty do I have on my exhaust system?
We give 4 years warranty on our exhaust systems, delivered from 2020. No part of the exhaust is excluded! Before 2020, it is a 4 year warranty on our adjusters and a 2 year warranty on the remaining parts of the exhaust system if you don’t have an engine tuning. If you want to know exactly: Here you can find our warranty conditions.
24. Insulating material comes from inside my exhaust. What does this mean?
There may be a technical defect. Please contact our technical support so that we can assess whether this affects the use and legality. Here are the contact details for our technical support team: techsupport@kesstech.de.
25. There is probably a warranty case with my system. Do I have to go to the dealer where I bought my system or can I go to another dealer for processing?
For warranty cases you can also go to another dealer. Please send us the following information so that we can assign the case: E-number on the exhaust, number on the electronics (located under the seat) and model & year of construction of your motorcycle.
26. I got a scratch on my black exhaust. How can I remove it?
Depending on the extent of the damage, you can either repair it yourself or carry out a new coating or coat replacement through us. If you want to repair the scratch yourself, please contact us first, depending on the damage we might be able to give you some tips.
27. How can I remove rubber residues from my black exhaust?
Unfortunately, rubber residues can be difficult or impossible to remove. The coat has to be recoated or exchanged here.
Legality & law
28. Your systems are adjusted via a handlebar switch. How is that legal?
The valves can be opened or closed via the handlebar switch. In addition, the system also regulates automatically to comply with all regulations. The handlebar switch is part of the EC type-approval and is therefore always legal.
29. In a control I was forbidden to drive on with the argument that my system was not legal. Can you help me?
The use of the exhaust system is legal. If you are stopped anyway, we will be happy to help and can provide the respective authority with the information they need. Of course there should always be a respectful way of interacting with each other in road traffic and noise pollution (especially at certain times or in certain traffic zones) should be avoided.
30. I would like to register my KessTech system in the vehicle documents. Is that possible?
In principle, it is not necessary to register a European type-approved exhaust system. The registration itself is handled differently by the various testing authorities. If you have an inspector to carry out the registration, we will be happy to help you with any necessary documents. Simply contact us by phone (+49 9521/95420-0) or by email (contact@kesstech.de).
