Euro 5 norm – Good to know.

More and more people are asking whether electronically adjustable exhaust systems will still be legal after the introduction of Euro 5. Of course, we follow the legislative procedures very closely and we will share our current Euro 5 knowledge with you:

The Euro 5 emissions norm will apply to new type approvals from 1 January 2020 and to all new approvals from 2021. Tighter regulations are expected to come into force in 2024. But what and if anything will happen is still in discussion.

First of all, all current systems benefit from inventory protection. For example, if you buy a used Euro 4 motorcycle in 2023, you can still equip it with one of our current Euro 4 exhaust systems.

From today's perspective, we are also sure that our systems – also with Euro 5 – will meet all legal requirements and that we will also receive type approvals for our new exhaust systems. Today, the Euro 5 norm only requires that the exhaust gas emission value is to be lowered. We have already made provision for this when the Euro 4 norm was introduced and equipped our exhaust systems with catalytic converters, which also comply with the requirements of the Euro 5 standard with the current generation of HD motorcycles. We will of course only see how exactly they will behave with Euro 5 models when we have the new generation motorcycles here for testing. However, this should not be a problem if we already comply with these values with Euro 4 motorcycles today. As far as noise levels are concerned, there is currently no legal regulation that would provide for changes to the values to be complied with or anything similar. If something else should still be decided and a legislative procedure will be started, it will take a few years until it will come in to force. If anything changes here, we will of course keep you up to date.

We hope that we have helped you with our small update.
